Fuming

An exquisite design of beautiful, transparent crystal-clear blue and green colours trapped inside the glass, revealing a world that will captivate you. These colour patterns are created using a technique called “fuming.” This colouring technique produces various colours by blowing pure gold or silver onto solid borosilicate glass and trapping it inside. At Kawanishi Glass, all glassworks are crafted with a focus on this very fuming technique. Through continuous trial and error, clear colours are achieved while keeping the beauty of the transparent glass itself. Achieving colours like clear green and pale blue requires both experience and skill. The moment the light hits the colours, the pattern softly emerges, revealing its true beauty. 

But how can we transform transparent glass into even more beautiful colours ? I truly believe that the colours produced by fuming hold more potential than we can imagine, and this is the thought I hold dear as I carry out my creative work.　

Pen tip

The grooves of the tip are the soul of a glass dip pen.
Unfortunately, there are very few artisans left who create these intricate grooves by hand.
Here at Kawanishi Glass, we pride ourselves in the quality of our pen tips, and craft each groove with care and precision, all by hand.
The artisan pours his soul into each tip he makes.
